IPE and REDWOOD DECKS
IPE is a hardwood very similar to Teak in hardness and durability but is a little darker in color. It is more difficult to work with than redwood but well worth the effort because it stands up to the elements so well retaining its rich color and beauty virtually forever with simple annual maintenance.
The trellis shown in the first photo on this page is made of cedar and involves bending wood to create curves. The art of bending wood started long ago with boat builders and has nearly become a lost trade due to mass production. This type of custom wood working is one of Dan’s passions and can be seen in many of the Fine Home Builders projects over the years.
